The school discipline policy is rigid document that ensures that the school functions smoothly without getting the students into too much of problems. It is put into practice to ensure that the children are well informed about the boundaries that they are to remain within. The policy also ensures that all the record of the students’ misbehaviour is documented in their diaries and the parents/guardians are well informed. The school discipline committee would like to apprise all the stake holders that the policy is framed, not to penalize the students but, to bring forth the necessary corrections in them whenever necessary.
The Offence Record Pages have been designed in order to keep proper record of the offences committed by the students and for timely reference by the parents/guardians.
Types of Offences
- Mild offences- Minor behaviour on the part of the student who impedes orderly classroom procedures or interferes with the orderly operations of the school.
- As and when a child is found violating the rules, the teacher concerned will sign in the record page and it has to be counter signed by the parents or guardians.
- Medium Offences-Inappropriate Behaviour on the part of the student that impedes smooth conduct of the school activities and portrays negative example to other students.
- The offences of medium nature will be signed by the teacher concerned and it has to be counter signed by the parents or guardians. Those offences that get carried over from the mild offence record page will be recorded under this by the class teacher.
- Severe Offences- severe misconduct on the part of the student that could endanger the reputation of the school and be of adverse nature to rest of the students.
- The offences of severe nature will be signed by the teacher concerned and it has to be counter signed by the parents or guardians. Those offences that get carried over from the mild offence and medium offence record page will be recorded under this by the class teacher.
- Any severe offence recorded is to be reported immediately to the discipline secretary by the concerned teacher.
Suspension types and procedures
After reviewing the severity of the offence committed, the sanctions from the discipline committee and the choice of the parents/guardians, the school can suspend a student for over a minimum of 7 days to a maximum of 1 academic year.
- In-school Suspension- The defaulter will have to come to school every day during the suspension period and will have to spend the whole day at school. The child will be kept isolated from the rest of the students and will have to write assignments under strict supervision. It is, however, important to note that the child will not be permitted to wear the school uniform during this period but will have to wear his/her student identity card.
Note: This is conditional and will only be appropriate for students suspended for a period of one month or less
Note: The student shall be considered present in case of in-school suspension if the child is found to be present at all times during the suspension period.
- Out-school Suspension- The defaulter will not come to school during the suspension period. The child is expected to finish all the assigned tasks during the suspension period and will have to submit the works to the teacher concerned on the day of joining. It is to be noted that the school shall not be responsible for the student during this period and it is the sole responsibility of the parents/guardians to look into the child’s conduct. It is also important to note that any misconduct from the side to the student if reported to the school shall be dealt with as a new offence and could add on to the length of the suspension period.
Note: More than one month of out-school suspension could result in ineligibility of the student to sit for the exam due to shortage of attendance.
Zero Tolerance Policy
The school has no tolerance to severe offences of the following categories and the defaulter will be suspended from the school for a period of not less than one academic year.
- Forming anti-social group or being a part of such group; be it inside or out of the school premises.
- Criminal offence that directly involves the police or any law enforcing body.
- Verbal or physical abuse to any of the teachers and supporting staff members.
Failure to comply
Failure to comply with the verdict of the discipline committee is an indication that the child is unwilling to improve. It will be considered an offence of a serious nature and it can result in suspension for a period of not less than one academic year.
Note: The Discipline committee holds the right to decide how the defaulter will be penalized based on the severity.
Multiple offence of any category could increase the severity and can get carried over to the next level. The method of carryover is as stated below.
4 Mild Offences = 1 Medium Offence
2 Mild Offences = 1 Severe Offence
The Discipline Committee
The school Discipline Committee is a body that ensures that the day to day school activities run smoothly. It is also the responsibility of the committee members to ensure that any disciplinary issue that comes up is scrutinized thoroughly and a just verdict is passed.
The members comprise of:
- The Principal
- The Vice Principal (Non-academic)
- The Two Discipline Secretaries
- The Concerned Class Teacher
The committee is responsible to thoroughly deliberate the issue at hand and pass the verdict in line to the written policy of the school. It is, however, important to note that if there is any issue that is not covered by the policy, the committee reserves the right to modify the policies, if deemed necessary, for the safety of the students and the good order of the school. The committee will convene a meeting every time a child’s offence has reached the severe stage. At other times, the child may be forwarded to the school councilors for necessary support.
