Women’s Day: Love and Respect for the multi-taskers

A very happy women’s day to all the ladies around the world.

Every year 8th of March is observed as the International Women’s Day. It started as early as 1909 in New York. It was organized by the socialist party of America in remembrance of the 1908 strike of the International Ladies Garment Worker’s Union. It was started with a prime aim to celebrate and encourage love and respect for women. Today, we celebrate the love and respect women are entitled to. We celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievement of women and encourage gender parity. Today is the day we remind ourselves that women are special and stronger in many ways.

To observe women’s day, Chethen Phenday Association had invited five of us (4 student peer helpers and madam Kripa) to Tashi Taj on the 4th of March, 2016. There, we had the opportunity to meet many successful ladies who had very encouraging stories of success to share. There were five guest speakers who really motivated us with their stories.

Aum Tshering Dema shared the difficulties and challenges she faced before becoming a successful women entrepreneur. Today she proudly talks about  how she overcame all the fear and hardships. She is now a well established home-based ezay distributor in the country which all of us love eating. She is also planning to start with a special Bhutanese Cookies. How encouraging!!

Similarly we had Tshokey Tshomo Karchung who talked about how she started writing movies scripts apart from acting. She saw that there was always the leading roles being taken by man, the hero of the movie and smaller and more gentle roles given to the heroine. She said “why always man be the savior at the end, why not women?” Therefore, her script writing started and her movie always depicts a bigger and more important roles being played by the actress. It was so encouraging to see her taking script writing a step ahead as a woman. Continue reading

No words would match the love and gratitude we feel for our beloved father who envisioned the nation as the HAPPIEST COUNTRY OF THE WORLD. Today we take this opportunity to wish our FATHER a very long life.
